PM Modi Releases ₹500 Commemorative Coin on Rani Durgavati
The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, released a ₹500 commemorative coin and a postage stamp to mark the 500th Birth Anniversary of Rani Durgavati on October 5, 2023, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
The Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mangubhai C. Patel, and the Chief Minister, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, were among the distinguished dignitaries present at the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister bowed to the sacred land of Maa Narmada and said he was witnessing a new, energetic Jabalpur. He noted that the nation is celebrating the 500th birth anniversary of Veerangana Rani Durgavati with great enthusiasm and that the large turnout reflects this spirit. He added that the Rani Durgavati Smarak and Udyaan would become a place every mother and youth would wish to visit, symbolising her legacy of courage and service to the motherland.
The Prime Minister highlighted projects worth about ₹12,000 crore that will benefit farmers, youth, and local industries, creating major employment opportunities. He reaffirmed the government's focus on welfare, including cheaper LPG under Ujjwala, expansion of gas pipelines, free ration, Ayushman Bharat benefits, support for farmers, and housing for the poor. He stressed that technological reforms after 2014 eliminated corruption and ensured that benefits reached genuine beneficiaries.
Calling this a decisive period for Madhya Pradesh, the Prime Minister urged the youth to protect the state’s development momentum. He praised Jabalpur’s contribution to defence manufacturing and noted India’s rising global achievements—from the G20 Summit to Chandrayaan and record sports performance—which reflect growing national confidence.
The Prime Minister appreciated the role of tribal communities in India's cultural heritage and development. He highlighted initiatives such as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, increased tribal welfare budgets, the honouring of tribal icons, and the upcoming Rani Durgavati grand memorial showcasing Gond culture. He recalled steps taken to honour figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Sant Ravidas, reflecting the government’s commitment to social harmony.
He added that MSP coverage for forest produce has vastly expanded and that traditional grains like Kodo-Kutki are now being promoted as “Shri Anna,” even being served to G20 guests. He cited new drinking water projects for 1,600 villages, the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, and the launch of the PM Vishwakarma scheme.
Concluding, the Prime Minister assured that the “double-engine government” would continue prioritising the underprivileged and expressed confidence that Madhya Pradesh’s Mahakaushal region would further strengthen the state’s development journey.
