PM Modi Releases ₹150 Coin on Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji
The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a ₹150 commemorative coin and postal stamp on occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji today, on November 15, 2024 at Jamui, Bihar.
Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is celebrated annually on November 15 in India to honour the contributions and legacy of tribal communities in the nation's history, particularly in their resistance against colonial rule and social injustice. The date commemorates the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, a revered tribal freedom fighter and leader from Jharkhand, whose life symbolizes indigenous pride, resilience, and the fight for social and economic rights. Observed across India, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas highlights the unique cultural heritage of tribal communities and acknowledges their critical role in India's independence and cultural identity.
In addition to Shri Modi, the event was attended by key dignitaries, including Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and several Union and State government ministers.
The Prime Minister highlighted that today holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. Extending his greetings to all citizens, particularly tribal communities, he emphasized the importance of this occasion. He also acknowledged the Swachhata Abhiyan conducted in Jamui over the past three days as a precursor to the celebrations and congratulated various stakeholders, including the administration, residents of Jamui, and especially the women, for their active participation.
Reflecting on last year’s Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, when he visited Ulihatu, the birthplace of Dharthi Abha Birsa Munda, the Prime Minister noted the significance of being in a place this year that witnessed the valor of martyr Tilka Manjhi. He remarked that the occasion was even more special as the nation embarks on the 150th Birth Anniversary Year celebrations of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, which will continue throughout the upcoming year.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the one crore individuals from various villages who joined the event virtually from Jamui, Bihar. He expressed his pleasure in welcoming Shri Budharam Munda, a descendant of Birsa Munda, and Shri Mandal Murmu, a descendant of Sidhu Kanhu, to the event.
