Kolkata Mint Opens Bookings for AKAM Coins Set
The India Government Mint, Kolkata has started accepting bookings for the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav coin series, featuring denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹20. The booking period began on December 18, 2024, and is subject to limited availability.
The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav coins are available in Folder/Blister packages priced at ₹730. It is important to note that these sets contain UNC (Uncirculated) coins. Earlier, they were issued by the Mumbai Mint in Acrylic and Folder/Blister packages in September 2023. These are distinct from the circulation strikes issued by the Hyderabad Mint.
These coins can be obtained either at the Mint Premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint. You can find further details and updates in the "Current and Upcoming Bookings" section for your reference and convenience.
The cover of the set shows that the AKAM series coins issued in 2022 by Kolkata Mint are included in this set. So, it will be very interesting to see Rs. 1 coin of 2022 issued by Kolkata Mint, which is yet not confirmed. To the best of my knowledge, all 1 Rs. Akam coins were issued in 2023. Kindly comment and verify my information. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have come across ₹1 coins from 2021 and 2022 minted by the Mumbai Mint in UNC (Proof-Like) quality, these coins were not circulated and were produced in very limited quantities. However, the Kolkata Mint’s AKAM special series sets, labeled with a 2022 badge, contain coins minted with the year 2023 instead of 2022. This lack of transparency by the Mint risks diminishing collector interest in such sets moving forward.
DeleteIf it is true, then it is very sad and disappointing for the collectors, who are paying 730 Rs. for 38 Rs. face value normal coins. Kolkata mint is anyways allowing only one set per order...and that too is not available right now.
ReplyDeleteThey are actually proper UNC coins, distinct from circulation coins. On the other hand, the Hyderabad Mint AKAM series consists of circulation coins.
DeleteIn that case, there will be some scope to cheer for serious coin collectors. They will be really happy to get the set with the good feeling of some ' Paisa Wasool' 😊
ReplyDeleteWas someone able to order these sets as it was showing out of stock from beginning....and will it be restocked?
ReplyDeleteYes Samyam, I am the lucky one, who ordered the sets (One set only, per order) To the best of my knowledge, Kolkata Mint made these sets available in a very limited quantity so far, that too in the late evening and they were sold out in no time. So, you can only wait for the availability of the next lot.
