Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya Releases ₹75 Coin on ESIC’s 75th Foundation Day
The Hon’ble Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, released the ₹75 commemorative coin to mark the inaugural function on the occasion of the 75th Foundation Day of Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) today, February 24, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The programme was attended by Shri N. K. Premachandran, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha); Smt. Vandana Gurnani, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment; Shri Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO); Smt. Michiko Miyamoto, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Technical Support Team for South Asia and Country Office for India; along with senior officers of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), and EPFO, who were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya described Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)’s journey as a remarkable story of growth, reform, and dedicated service. He noted that since its inception in 1952 with about 1.2 lakh beneficiaries and a single dispensary, ESIC has expanded to serve over 15 crore beneficiaries through 166 hospitals, 17 medical colleges, and nearly 1,600 dispensaries. He emphasized the need for a continued reform-and-perform approach in its 75th year, ensuring adequate medicines, equipment, and doctors across facilities, minimizing referrals, and upholding discipline and service standards comparable to premier institutions like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He also highlighted provisions under the Labour Codes for mandatory annual health check-ups for workers above 40 years and called for collective efforts to make ESIC a global model of health security in a “New Bharat.”
In her address, Secretary (Labour & Employment) Smt. Vandana Gurnani stated that over 75 years, ESIC has become a cornerstone of India’s social security framework. She stressed that protecting workers’ health prevents poverty and strengthens nation-building. Referring to expanded responsibilities under the Labour Codes—including pan-India coverage and extension of benefits to unorganised and gig workers—she also mentioned India’s recognition by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) for excellence in social security administration.
Apart from the release of the commemorative coin, the ESIC@75 Coffee Table Book was also launched. The Swasthya Rath initiative and Annual Health Check-up Camps for workers aged 40 years and above were introduced to strengthen outreach and promote preventive healthcare.
This release marks the 5th commemorative coin of the year 2026, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings for the Proof and UNC sets are expected to open soon on the official India Government Mint website and will be updated under the current and upcoming bookings section.
