2026 - 75th Foundation Day of ESIC | Commemorative Coin

commemorative coin of ₹75 will be issued to mark the 75th Foundation Day of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on February 23, 2026.

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is one of India’s most significant social security institutions, functioning under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Established under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, ESIC was conceived as a pioneering step toward building a welfare state in independent India. Its primary objective is to provide comprehensive social security and health insurance coverage to workers in the organized sector, ensuring that they and their families are protected against financial distress arising from sickness, maternity, disability, or employment-related injury.

The ESI scheme, administered by ESIC, is contributory in nature, with both employers and employees making regular contributions. These pooled funds enable the Corporation to deliver a wide range of benefits. Insured persons receive full medical care for themselves and their dependants through a vast network of ESIC hospitals, dispensaries, and empanelled institutions across the country. In addition to medical benefits, the scheme provides cash compensation during periods of certified sickness, maternity leave, temporary or permanent disablement, and in cases of death due to employment injury, financial support to dependants.

Over the decades, ESIC has steadily expanded its coverage, both geographically and in terms of the categories of establishments brought under its ambit. What began as a modest social insurance initiative has evolved into one of the largest social security systems in the world, serving millions of insured persons and their families. The Corporation has also embraced modernization by introducing digital services, online registration, and streamlined claim processes, thereby improving transparency and efficiency in service delivery.

Beyond financial assistance, ESIC represents a broader commitment to the dignity and welfare of India’s workforce. By reducing the economic vulnerability of workers during times of need, it contributes to social stability and productivity. As India’s economy grows and diversifies, the role of ESIC remains crucial in strengthening the social security framework and promoting inclusive development for the nation’s working population.

The 75th Foundation Day of ESIC marks a significant milestone in its journey of safeguarding workers’ welfare and strengthening India’s social security framework. The occasion highlights ESIC’s long-standing commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure, improving service delivery, and promoting inclusive growth for the nation’s workforce.
