Kolkata Mint Begins Bookings for Sikkim and Chenab Bridge Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Kolkata, has started the bookings for the ₹50 and ₹100  commemorative coins on Sikkim's Statehood and Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line. The bookings are open from February 2, 2026, and it is subject to limited availability.

The ₹50 coin was issued to mark 50 Glorious Years of Sikkim’s Statehood. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, virtually released the ₹50 commemorative coin, while the physical release was carried out by the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, on 29 May 2025.

The ₹100 coin was issued to mark the commissioning of the Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line, featuring the iconic Chenab Bridge. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released the commemorative coin on 6 June 2025, marking this historic milestone and underscoring his commitment to strengthening rail infrastructure and improving connectivity in the region, in the presence of other ministers and distinguished dignitaries.

Both the ₹50 and ₹100 coins are currently issued in Proof Sets, packaged in a folder or blister pack. In addition, UNC Sets in a folder or blister pack, as well as Proof Sets housed in an MDF box, may be issued at a later date.

The ₹50 coin, issued to mark Sikkim’s Statehood, is priced at ₹23,202 for the Proof Set packaged in a folder or blister pack. The coin is composed of 99.9% pure silver and weighs 40 grams.

The ₹100 coin, issued to mark the Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line and featuring the iconic Chenab Bridge, is priced at ₹11,102 for the Proof Set packaged in a folder or blister pack. This coin is struck in a silver alloy, composed of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc.

The above prices are subject to change due to the high volatility in silver prices, and the pricing by the India Government Mint, has been kept on the higher side accordingly.

These commemorative coin sets—particularly the one featuring the Chenab Bridge—are expected to be highly sought after, as they commemorate a significant milestone in India’s engineering excellence and infrastructure development. The coin sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint, with updates available in the current and upcoming bookings section.
