PM Modi to Release ₹75 Commemorative Coin on Somnath Temple

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will release a ₹75 commemorative coin and a postal stamp dedicated to Somnath Temple while participating in the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav during his forthcoming visit to Somnath on May 11, 2026.

Somnath Amrut Mahotsav marks 75 years since the inauguration of the restored Somnath Temple. The celebration commemorates the rich spiritual, cultural, and historical legacy associated with one of the most revered Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It reflects the enduring spirit of faith, resilience, and national pride linked to the temple’s reconstruction and revival. The occasion also highlights India’s civilisational heritage and the importance of preserving ancient traditions for future generations.

As part of the celebrations, the Prime Minister will participate in a series of auspicious religious and cultural events. He will take part in the Vishesh Maha Puja, followed by the Kumbhabhishek and Dhvajarohan ceremonies, marking the consecration rituals and the hoisting of the temple flag.

This release should mark the 7th commemorative coin of 2026, with the Ministry of Finance confirming its issuance through a gazette notification dated May 8, 2026. The ₹75 coin is reportedly being minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. Additionally, several more commemorative coin releases are expected this year, as outlined in the upcoming and possibility section.
