2015 - Golden Jubilee of 1965 Operations | Commemorative Coin
The 8th commemorative coin for the year 2015 was released to mark the Golden Jubilee of the 1965 Operations, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war with Pakistan in 1965.
The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 marked a series of conflicts occurring between April and September 1965, involving India and Pakistan.
The conflict originated with Pakistan's Operation Gibraltar, an initiative aimed at infiltrating forces into Jammu and Kashmir to incite insurgency against Indian rule. In response, India launched a comprehensive military attack on West Pakistan. The war, lasting seventeen days, resulted in significant casualties on both sides and witnessed the largest tank battle since World War II. The main theater of operations was in Kashmir and along the India-Pakistan border.
The conclusion of hostilities came through a ceasefire after diplomatic intervention by the Soviet Union and the USA, leading to the Tashkent Declaration. Despite both India and Pakistan claiming victory, most impartial assessments suggest that India held the advantage when the ceasefire was declared.
This conflict witnessed the largest troop deployment in Kashmir since the Partition of British India in 1947, a scale later surpassed only during the 2001–2002 military standoff between the two nations. The engagements primarily involved land forces, featuring infantry and armored units, supported by air forces and naval operations.
