The 6th commemorative coin of 2019 was released to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Paramahansa Yogananda stands as one of the most influential spiritual figures of the modern era, revered across the world for bringing the ancient science of Yoga and the timeless philosophy of Vedanta to the global stage. Born on January 5, 1893, in Gorakhpur, India, as Mukunda Lal Ghosh, he exhibited profound spiritual inclination from early childhood, often experiencing deep states of meditation and seeking the guidance of saints and mystics. His spiritual journey found its direction under the tutelage of his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, who trained him rigorously in the paths of Kriya Yoga and self-realization.

In 1920, Yogananda travelled to the United States as India's delegate to the International Congress of Religious Liberals, marking the beginning of a transformative mission. His simple yet powerful message—uniting the essence of all religions and emphasizing the divine potential within every individual—captivated thousands. He founded the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) in the same year to disseminate the teachings of Kriya Yoga, meditation, and spiritual living. His insightful lectures across America and Europe introduced spiritual seekers to a deeper understanding of inner peace, harmony, and consciousness.

Yogananda's monumental work, Autobiography of a Yogi, published in 1946, became a spiritual classic revered by millions. This book has served as an entry point to the world of spirituality for countless readers, offering profound insights into his experiences with saints, mystics, yogis, and the subtle laws governing higher realities. It continues to inspire people from diverse cultures, making the wisdom of India accessible and relatable to the modern world.

Throughout his life, Paramahansa Yogananda emphasized the harmony between science and spirituality. He highlighted that spiritual truths are universal and timeless, and that meditation is the key to understanding the soul’s relationship with the Divine. His teachings encouraged a balanced life, integrating material responsibilities with spiritual growth.

Paramahansa Yogananda attained mahasamadhi on March 7, 1952, in Los Angeles, leaving behind a legacy that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. His message of self-realization, universal brotherhood, and inner awakening continues to resonate globally. Today, millions follow his path, finding solace, inspiration, and purpose through the techniques and wisdom he shared.

His life remains a shining testament to the power of spiritual conviction, the universality of divine love, and the enduring capacity of ancient wisdom to uplift humanity in every age.
