Govt to issue ₹550 Commemorative Coin on Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

The Government of India will be issuing a ₹550 commemorative coin to mark the 550th Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification confirming this development.


The metal composition of the ₹550 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

The obverse side of the coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “550” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

The reverse of the coin will bear the picture of "Gurudwara Shri Ber Shaib, Sultanpur Lodi, Punjab." The inscription "श्री गुरु नानक देव जी का 550वां प्रकाश उत्सव" in Devanagari script and "550th Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji" in English shall be written on upper and lower periphery of the coin with the year 1469 and 2019 in International Numeral at left and right side of the coin.

The coin will bear a denomination of ₹550, marking the first release in this denomination. The details of the commemorative issue have been outlined as per the gazette notification. The release of the commemorative coin is anticipated in the near future, with an emphasis that no smaller denomination coin will be issued for general circulation.
