President Murmu Releases ₹75 coin on Armed Forces Medical College

The President of India and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, released a ₹75 commemorative coin, special cover, and postage stamp to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, while conferring the President's Colour upon the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) today.

The spectacular event took place at the Capt. Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra Parade Ground at AFMC. A significant feature of the ceremonial parade was the female medical officers leading four contingents of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) personnel serving in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, exemplifying women's empowerment in the AFMS.

During the event, the President remarked that AFMC has established itself as an institution of the highest caliber in medical education. The alumni of this institute have brought pride to the nation with their committed service in times of war, counter-insurgency operations, natural disasters, and pandemics, both within our borders and beyond.

The AFMC is a premier establishment of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and one of the leading medical colleges in the country. The award is a testament to the glorious 75 years of AFMC’s exemplary service to the nation. The President's Colour, also known as ‘Rashtrapati ka Nishaan,’ is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon any military unit. This illustrious ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries and officials from the Central and State Governments, as well as the Armed Forces. Veteran officers, including the Ex-Director and Commandants, and Ex-Dean and Deputy Commandants, also graced the occasion.

The ₹75 coin, released today, is minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai, and comprises 80% Silver and 20% Copper. It has a weight of 35 grams, a diameter of 44 mm, and features 200 serrations along the edge. This release marks the 17th commemorative coin for the year 2023.
