Shri Rao Inderjit Singh Unveils ₹75 Coin on National Sample Survey
The Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Ministry of Planning, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, unveiled the ₹75 commemorative coin and a Customized My Stamp to mark 75 years of the National Sample Survey while commemorating the 19th Statistics Day on June 29, 2025, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
The event included addresses by Prof. Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, Chairman of the National Statistical Commission, and Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI.
Statistics Day is observed annually to honour the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a visionary in the field of statistics and economic planning. The day highlights the significance of statistics in shaping socio-economic policies and aims to inspire greater awareness, particularly among the youth, about its vital role in national development.
Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, in his address, paid tribute to Prof. Mahalanobis and underscored the significance of the dual milestone—the celebration of Statistics Day and the 75th year of the National Sample Survey (NSS). He highlighted the transformation of the statistical system through the adoption of technological tools for real-time data monitoring. Emphasizing the need for methodological reforms, he called for updated sampling techniques, integrated survey frameworks, and alignment with international standards. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive engagement through consultations and capacity-building initiatives with State Governments. The Union Minister commended MoSPI’s transparent and inclusive approach, and urged the statistical community to contribute to the national vision of a more accountable and continually improving National Statistical Office. He concluded by acknowledging the dedication and efforts of statisticians and field functionaries across the ministry.
