Punjab Govt to Celebrate 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji

The Government of Punjab will celebrate the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji on a grand scale through year-long events to be held from February 2026 to February 2027.

The celebrations will be guided by the blessings and advice of saints, eminent personalities, scholars, and religious sects. Punjab Finance Minister Shri Harpal Singh Cheema announced that a commemorative coin dedicated to Sri Guru Ravidass Ji will also be released as part of these celebrations.

The programme will commence on February 4, 2026, with the beginning of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Khuralgarh Sahib and will conclude in February 2027. In November 2026, special Katha–Kirtan Darbar and Begampura programmes will be organised at Khuralgarh Sahib, with participation from religious leaders and other distinguished personalities.

Shri Harpal Singh Cheema, Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, chaired the first meeting of the committee on January 29, 2026. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Shri Lal Chand Kataruchak, Shri Tarunpreet Singh Saund, Deputy Speaker Shri Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Cultural Affairs Advisor Shri Deepak Bali, Secretary Tourism Shri Kumar Amit, and Director Tourism Dr. Sanjeev Tiwari. Prominent saints and scholars including Sant Nirmal Das, Sant Inder Das, Sant Jagir Singh, Satyawan, Krishna Kumar, and Raj Kapoor from Dera Ballan, along with Bibi Santosh Kumari, Scholar Dr. Raj Kumar Hans, Dr. Soma Atri, and Shri Vijay, also participated.

During the meeting, Shri Cheema stated that the Punjab Government will celebrate the 650th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji with complete devotion and religious fervour. He presented a detailed roadmap of commemorative events and informed that programmes highlighting the life, teachings, education, and travels of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji will be organised in villages across Punjab throughout the year. These will include seminars and workshops, special kirtan programmes, pilgrimages, school-level competitions, documentary screenings, drone shows, release of commemorative coin, blood donation camps, plantation drives, marathons, shobha yatras, and religious rallies, all planned in consultation with saints, dignitaries, and experts.

Shri Cheema further shared that monthly events have been scheduled as part of the celebrations. Four major Shobha Yatras will be organised from Varanasi to Khuralgarh Sahib, Faridkot to Khuralgarh Sahib, Bathinda to Khuralgarh Sahib, and Jammu to Khuralgarh Sahib. A special logo will be designed for the celebrations, and a commemorative coin dedicated to Sri Guru Ravidass Ji will be issued.

The Finance Minister expressed special gratitude to the saints present at the meeting and reiterated that the entire celebration will be conducted with utmost devotion under the guidance and blessings of saints, scholars, and experts.
