PM Modi Releases ₹75 Coin at Somnath Amrut Mahotsav
The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released the ₹75 commemorative coin and postal stamp marking 75 Years of Somnath Temple Restoration while participating in the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav at Veraval in Gujarat today, on May 11, 2026.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Harsh Sanghavi, along with other ministers and distinguished dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Narendra Modi described the occasion as a symbol of India’s eternal consciousness and civilizational resilience rather than merely a ceremonial event. He said the celebrations reflected the spirit of Somnath through vedic chants, cultural performances, and devotion.
Recalling his personal connection with Somnath Temple, Shri Modi said he had visited the shrine countless times as a devotee and described the occasion as a journey through history. Referring to the recent Somnath Swabhiman Parv and the completion of 75 years of restoration, he said the event represented an immortal journey of faith spanning a thousand years.
The Prime Minister stated that the 1951 Pran Pratishtha of Somnath symbolized the awakening of independent India’s consciousness after freedom in 1947. He compared Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s role in rebuilding Somnath with his efforts in unifying princely states, saying the restoration announced India’s return to its ancient glory.
Highlighting Somnath’s repeated reconstruction after attacks by invaders, Shri Modi said the temple reflected the indestructible spirit of Indian civilization. He paid tribute to rulers, saints, scholars, and national leaders including Sardar Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and K. M. Munshi for preserving and rebuilding the sacred site.
Connecting the occasion with National Technology Day, Shri Modi recalled the Pokhran nuclear tests conducted on May 11, 1998, under the leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said Operation Shakti represented India’s scientific strength and reflected the cultural philosophy of Shiva and Shakti together inspiring national progress.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the development of major pilgrimage and heritage sites across India, including Kedarnath, Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Mahakal Mahalok, the Kartarpur Corridor, and the Buddhist Circuit. He said cultural heritage and development must move together, adding that sacred sites strengthen both spiritual identity and economic growth.
Concluding his address, Shri Modi said Somnath’s journey over the past 75 years inspires India’s future and called upon future generations to preserve and carry forward the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
