1995 - Globalizing Indian Agriculture: AgriExpo 95 | Commemorative Coin

The 3rd commemorative coin of 1995 was released to mark the Agri Expo 95 for Globalizing Indian Agriculture.

Agri Expo served as a pivotal platform, fostering interactions among foreign and national visitors from over 20 countries and providing them the opportunity to engage with leading international agricultural technology companies. The International Agricultural Fair, known as "Agri Expo - 95," took place in New Delhi from March 3rd to 13th, 1995, with the overarching goal of boosting the export of the country's agricultural produce and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The event also offered a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and the showcasing of innovative farming methods.

This annual Agriculture Expo stands out as a premier international event, showcasing cutting-edge agricultural technologies. It consistently draws the attention of Ministers of Agriculture, decision-makers, experts, practitioners, trainers in agriculture, and thousands of visitors globally. Through conferences, workshops, and demonstrations, Agri Expo encourages collaboration between industry stakeholders, research institutions, and policymakers, helping to shape the future of Indian agriculture in alignment with global standards.

India holds a prominent position in the agricultural landscape, being the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices and spice products. The nation has witnessed rapid growth in fruit production, securing its place as the world's second-largest fruit producer. The horticulture output of India, encompassing fruits, vegetables, and spices, is estimated at 283.4 million tonnes (MT) annually, ranking third globally in farm and agriculture outputs. Agricultural exports constitute a significant portion, contributing 10 percent to the country's total exports and making it the fourth-largest exported principal commodity. The event highlighted these achievements and provided a forum to explore new export opportunities and value addition in agri-products.

The diverse agro-industry in India spans various sub-segments, including canned, dairy, processed, frozen food, fisheries, meat, poultry, and food grains. The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, plays a crucial role in the development of the agricultural sector. Additionally, it oversees other bodies such as the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), contributing to the progress of allied agricultural sectors. Agri Expo - 95 also emphasized the importance of sustainable resource management, mechanization, and the adoption of modern technologies to enhance productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability, reflecting India’s commitment to strengthening its agricultural infrastructure for the future.
