PM Modi Releases ₹100 Coin on 90th Interpol General Assembly
The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released the ₹100 commemorative coin along with the postage stamp on 90th Interpol General Assembly today, on October 18, 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering at the 90th Interpol General Assembly in New Delhi, the Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries. He highlighted that India is celebrating 75 years of independence and noted that Interpol will mark 100 years of its establishment in 2023, making it a time for both reflection and envisioning the future.
Shri Modi drew parallels between Interpol’s motto, “Connecting Police for a Safer World,” and a Vedic quote, “Aano Bhadra Krtavo Yantu Vishwatah” — let noble thoughts come from all directions — emphasizing the need for universal cooperation to make the world safer. He highlighted India’s contribution to UN Peacekeeping missions and recalled the sacrifices of Indian soldiers in world wars, stating that India has historically prioritized global security. He added that India continues to take the lead in crises, citing COVID-19 vaccines and climate action, while urging nations to embrace international cooperation for local welfare.
The Prime Minister underscored the role of police forces not only in maintaining law and order but also in social welfare, citing their frontline service during the COVID-19 pandemic, where many made the ultimate sacrifice. He also highlighted India’s federal and state police cooperation in implementing over 900 national laws and 10,000 state laws, while respecting constitutional rights and democratic principles.
Shri Modi praised Interpol’s 99-year legacy in connecting police organizations across 195 countries and announced that the Government of India released a commemorative stamp and a ₹100 coin to mark the occasion. He stressed that modern threats like terrorism, corruption, drug trafficking, poaching, and organized crime are transnational, evolving faster than before, and require global collaboration. He called for enhanced measures such as early detection systems, intelligence sharing, infrastructure protection, and technological cooperation.
On terrorism, the Prime Minister noted India’s decades-long fight and sacrifices, adding that cyber threats now allow attacks with just a click. On corruption, he emphasized that ill-gotten money often harms the poorest, and safe havens for criminals, terrorists, or organized crime must be eliminated. He urged law enforcement to strengthen cooperation, speed up Red Corner Notices, and collectively safeguard humanity.
Shri Modi also invited dignitaries to visit the National Police Memorial and National War Memorial in New Delhi to honor heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He expressed hope that the assembly would serve as an effective platform for tackling crime, corruption, and terrorism, concluding: “Let communication, collaboration, and cooperation defeat crime, corruption, and terrorism.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Interpol President Mr Ahmed Naser Al Rais, Interpol Secretary General, Mr Jurgen Stock, and CBI Director, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal were also present on the occasion.
The ₹100 commemorative coin has been minted by India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
