Mumbai Mint confirms ₹1 coins of AKAM being circulated

The India Government Mint, Mumbai confirmed the ₹1 denomination minting and circulation of the recent special coin series of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in a reply to the RTI filed by Shri Sainath Malisetty, Bangalore dated 5th December 2022.

The reply to the RTI clearly says that ₹1 coins in 100 pieces/numbers were minted with the year 2021 and 1200 pieces/numbers were minted with the year 2022 making the total of 1300 pieces/numbers released for circulation.

Both the 2021 and 2022 years ₹1 coins will be considered as extremal rare due to very low mintage where dealers will take huge advantage of this though none of them has seen the ₹1 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav coins

Needless to say, the ₹1 denomination 2019 new series visually impaired coins seem to be the same scenario as none of them has seen from past 3 years. While most of the people using UPI transactions and with the introduction of Digital Rupee (e₹), going forward it will be very rare to see the ₹1 coins in circulation which can also be termed as end of the era.
