The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled a ₹125 commemorative coin and a postage stamp today, November 21, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Utkal Keshari Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab.

Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi were also present at the event. Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, Member of Parliament from Cuttack and son of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab, also attended this momentous occasion, which celebrated Dr. Mahtab's enduring legacy as a freedom fighter, statesman, and visionary leader.

Highlighting Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab's immense contributions to the freedom struggle, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu noted that he tirelessly spread Mahatma Gandhi's message across Odisha. "Dr. Mahatab was jailed multiple times during the Salt Revolution and Quit India Movement," the President remarked. She also highlighted his close association with Subhas Chandra Bose, who, as Congress President in 1938, appointed Dr. Mahatab as an executive member of the party.

President Murmu acknowledged Dr. Mahatab's pivotal role in the formation of Odisha on a linguistic basis. She remembered him as the last Prime Minister of Odisha during the pre-independence era and the first Chief Minister of the State post-Independence. She spoke about his visionary contributions, such as the construction of the Hirakud Dam, which transformed agriculture in Odisha, and his efforts in relocating the State’s capital to Bhubaneswar.

The President expressed gratitude to the Central Government for commemorating Dr. Mahatab's 125th Birth Anniversary on a national level. She hoped that his legacy and love for Odisha would continue to inspire generations to come.
