commemorative coin of ₹100 will be issued to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab. The Ministry of Finance has issued the gazette notification on December 29, 2023.

Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab (1899–1987) was a distinguished Indian politician and a key figure in the country's struggle for independence. Born on November 21, 1899, in Agarpara, Odisha, Mahtab was a prominent leader who played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of Odisha.

A visionary statesman, Mahtab was actively involved in the freedom movement and was imprisoned several times for his participation in various protests against British rule. He was deeply committed to the cause of social justice and economic development.

Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab served as the first Chief Minister of Odisha from 1946 to 1950 and again from 1956 to 1961, contributing significantly to the state's progress. His tenure witnessed notable advancements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. His efforts in promoting the welfare of farmers and marginalized communities earned him widespread admiration.
