Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw to Unveil ₹100 Coin on Railway Electrification

The Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, will unveil a ₹100 coloured commemorative coin and a postage stamp to mark 100 years of Electrification in Indian Railways, while he confer the 70th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar on selected railway personnel on January 9, 2026, at the India International Convention & Expo Centre (Yashobhoomi), Dwarka, New Delhi.

The ceremony will also be attended by the Minister of State for Railways & Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna; the Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Shri Ravneet Singh; the Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board, Shri Satish Kumar; along with Members of the Railway Board and General Managers of various Railway Zones and Production Units.

The 100 Years of Railway Electrification in India marks a century of progress since the first electrified railway section was introduced in 1925 between Mumbai’s Victoria Terminus (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) and Kurla.

The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 5, 2025, officially confirming the issuance of this coin. This release will mark the first commemorative coin of 2026, reportedly minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. Additionally, several more commemorative coin releases are expected this year, as outlined in the upcoming and possibility section.
