Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Releases ₹60 Coin on CPCL at IEW 2026
The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, released the ₹60 commemorative coin marking the Diamond Jubilee of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) today, on January 27, 2026 at the India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 event held in Goa.
India Energy Week is the country’s flagship global energy platform, bringing together government leaders, industry executives, and innovators to accelerate progress toward a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy future. As a neutral international forum, IEW plays a pivotal role in driving investment, policy alignment, and technological collaboration that shape the global energy landscape.
Speaking from India’s perspective, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri underlined that energy availability is the lifeline of a growing economy and a cornerstone of national resilience. He noted that India has successfully navigated recent global turbulence without shortages by diversifying energy sources, expanding supplier geographies, and implementing wide-ranging reforms across the energy value chain.
Highlighting India’s ambition to increase the share of natural gas in its overall energy mix, Shri Puri stressed the importance of global collaboration, sustained investment, and realistic transition pathways. He reiterated that global energy transition efforts must recognise that continued growth in energy demand can be met through energy addition rather than abrupt replacement, as stable and predictable markets serve the shared interests of both producers and consumers.
The ₹60 commemorative coin pays tribute to Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, celebrating its proud Diamond Jubilee and six decades of dedicated service to India’s energy sector. It marks CPCL’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 1965 and honours its consistent contributions to refining excellence, fuel security, and industrial growth in the nation. The coin symbolises CPCL’s enduring commitment to operational excellence and its vital role in supporting India’s energy infrastructure.
This release marks the second commemorative coin of the year 2026, minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad. The bookings for the Proof and UNC sets are expected to open shortly on the official India Government Mint website and will be updated under the current and upcoming bookings section.
