The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled a ₹525 commemorative coin and a postage stamp to mark the 525th Birth Anniversary of Saint Meera Bai during his participation in the ‘Sant Mirabai Janmotsav’ in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on November 23, 2023.

The Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya and Shri Brajesh Pathak, and Mathura MP Smt. Hema Malini were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed his happiness at being in Braj Bhoomi and paid tribute to its divine heritage. He bowed to Lord Krishna, Radha Rani, Mirabai, and the saints of Braj, and praised Mathura MP Smt. Hema Malini for her dedicated service rooted in devotion.
He highlighted the deep cultural links between Braj and Gujarat, noting that Lord Krishna became Dwarkadhish there and that Mirabai spent her final days in Dwarka. He said the 525th birth anniversary of Mirabai is a celebration of India’s spiritual tradition of love, devotion, and unity.
Recalling Mirabai’s life of courage and devotion, he said her message continues to guide the nation. He emphasized that women’s inner strength has always shaped India’s journey and cited Mirabai as an enduring symbol of Nari Shakti.
The Prime Minister spoke about India’s timeless spiritual resilience, recalling great saints across regions—from Ramanujacharya and Tulsidas to Guru Nanak, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Narsinh Mehta, and Tukaram—who united the nation through the Bhakti movement. He said Mathura has long been a confluence of these traditions.
He noted that Braj was historically neglected due to a colonial mindset but affirmed that in the era of Amrit Kaal, India is reclaiming its cultural pride. Citing the redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Kedarnath, and the upcoming Shri Ram Temple, he assured that Mathura and Braj will also see transformative development. He welcomed the work of the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad and emphasized coordinated efforts with multiple states to develop the entire Braj region.
Concluding, he said the transformation of Braj reflects India’s awakening consciousness and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to build a Viksit Bharat, guided by the eternal blessings of Shri Krishna.
