Mumbai Mint Opens Bookings for Śrī Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened the bookings for the ₹250 commemorative coin issued to mark the 250th Janmotsava of Śrī Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita. The bookings are open from November 3, 2026, and it is subject to limited availability.

Earlier in the day, the Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, released the ₹250 coin at Swatantrata Bhavan, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.

The ₹250 coin is currently available in a Proof Set in Booklet packaging at an initial issue price of ₹6,985, subject to revision in view of significant fluctuations in silver prices.

Among recent issues, the India Government Mints have predominantly released commemorative coin sets only in Proof, with UNC sets not being made available.

It is unfortunate that the India Government Mint, Mumbai, does not provide an outer cover for its booklet packaging. This often creates confusion among collectors, as the booklet packages look alike, making it difficult to distinguish and identify individual issues. This concern has been brought to the attention of the marketing team of the India Government Mint, Mumbai, on several occasions. However, no corrective action has been taken so far. In contrast, the Kolkata and Hyderabad Mints provide outer covers for their booklet packages, making the identification and classification of individual issues much easier for collectors.

These coin sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint, with updates available in the current and upcoming bookings section.
