Shri Nitin Gadkari Releases ₹125 Coin on Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh

The Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Shri Nitin Gadkari, along with the NCP President, Shri Sharad Pawar, unveiled the ₹125 commemorative coin on the occasion of the '125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Panjabrao Alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh' at the National Agriculture Exhibition organised by Shri Shivaji Agriculture College, Amravati, today. The exhibition is scheduled to continue until December 30, 2023.

Among the other dignitaries present were Shri Harshvardhan Deshmukh, President of Sri Shivaji Shikshan Sanstha, and the Member of Lok Sabha from Amravati, Smt. Navneet Kaur Rana.

In his address, Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari emphasised Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh's significant contributions to education and agriculture. He underscored the pivotal role of education and agriculture sectors in today's context, stating that investing in education is akin to laying the foundation for future citizens. Gadkari emphasised the vision of universalising education, ensuring its reach to every individual, especially those at the grassroots level. This vision, rooted in Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh's philosophy, led to the establishment of numerous educational institutions across villages in Vidarbha. 

Shri Nitin Gadkari further acknowledged Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh's stature in agriculture, paralleling it with another prominent figure, Sharad Pawar. Noting Pawar's recognition through an award in Deshmukh's name, Gadkari emphasised the rarity of finding individuals of Pawar's caliber year after year.

The ₹125 coin, released today, is minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. This release marks the issuance of the 20th commemorative coin for the year 2023, the highest number in a single year in the history of Republic India coinage. The previous record was set in 2015 with the issuance of 10 different themes.
