New Commemorative Coin: Sri Ramanasramam Centenary

The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin on occasion of Sri Ramanasramam Centenary. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 15, 2025, confirming this coin.

Sri Ramana Maharshi was a great Indian sage known for his profound teachings on self-inquiry and inner realization through the simple question, “Who am I?”. He spent most of his life at the sacred Arunachala Hill in Tiruvannamalai, where his peaceful presence drew seekers from across the world. Sri Ramanasramam, the ashram established around him, remains a serene spiritual center even today. It preserves his legacy through daily prayers, meditation, and the atmosphere of silence that reflects his teachings. The ashram continues to inspire countless devotees on the path of truth and self-realization.

The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: The face of the coin shall bear the image of Sri Ramana Maharshi. At the bottom of the image the inscription “Sri Ramanasramam Centenary” in English shall be written. The year 1922 and 2022 shall be inscribed on left and right side of the image of “Sri Ramana Maharshi”. The text “श्री रमणाश्रमम्‌ शताब्दी वर्ष” shall be inscribed in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and below which mountain range shall be depicted.

This commemorative coin will tribute not only to the ashram’s historical and spiritual significance but also to the enduring influence of the Maharshi’s presence at Arunachala.
