Finance Minister Inaugurated SPMCIL’s New Corporate Office in New Delhi
The Union Minister for Finance, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, inaugurated the new corporate office of the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), along with the Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, at the World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi, on June 9, 2025.
The event was also attended by Ms. Anuradha Thakur, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, members of the SPMCIL Board, senior officers of SPMCIL, and representatives from employee unions.
In her keynote address, the Union Finance Minister lauded SPMCIL for achieving this significant milestone. She emphasized that the new corporate office would not only lead to substantial savings on lease rentals but also enhance administrative efficiency, internal coordination, and employee engagement.
Smt. Sitharaman highlighted that SPMCIL has issued over 210 commemorative coins to date, including 105 in the last decade alone. She noted that these souvenir coins have become symbolic of Brand India, serving as prestigious and culturally meaningful gifts that reflect the nation’s heritage. She further acknowledged SPMCIL’s critical role in producing essential products such as currency notes, coins, passport paper, and postal items, which are integral to the nation’s functioning.
Special mention was made of the souvenir coin series based on the Panchatantra, which received widespread public appreciation. The Finance Minister also recognized SPMCIL’s role in minting national honours like the Bharat Ratna medallion, symbolizing the highest civilian recognition in India.
Additionally, Smt. Sitharaman commended SPMCIL’s in-house capabilities in gold and silver refining and its impressive financial performance, including the full repayment of loans in FY 2016–17. She encouraged the organization to further strengthen its supply chain management and operational resilience.
In his address, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, expressed pride in SPMCIL’s accomplishments and praised its pivotal role in fortifying India’s economic and security printing framework. He applauded the corporation’s commitment to innovation, self-reliance, and sustainability.
Shri Chaudhary highlighted the Corporation’s achievements in developing indigenous solutions such as banknote ink and passport paper, reinforcing SPMCIL’s position as a model public sector enterprise. He congratulated the board, management, and employees for their contributions and urged them to continue striving for excellence, including aspiring for Navratna status, assuring the continued support of the Ministry of Finance.
The event concluded with the distribution of awards by the Union Finance Minister and MoS Finance to recognize the exemplary performance of employees and operational units for the year 2023–24.
