Shri Amit Shah Releases ₹50 Coin on the Official Language Department
The Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, released a ₹50 commemorative coin to mark the Golden Year Celebration of the Official Language Department today, on June 26, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta; Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister of State for Home Affairs; Smt. Sudha Murty, Member of Rajya Sabha; and Smt. Anshuli Arya, Secretary of the Department of Official Language, were among the distinguished attendees who graced this significant occasion.
In his address, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah stated that as India approaches the centenary of its independence, the 50-year journey of the Department of Official Language—from 1975 to 2025—will be remembered in golden letters as a significant contribution to the revival of the nation’s self-respect. He emphasized that the department was established with the objective of ensuring governance in the language of the people, and that the use of Indian languages in administration is key to awakening a sense of national pride.
Shri Shah asserted that no country can truly preserve its culture, literature, history, or social values without nurturing its language. For India to move ahead with self-respect rooted in its cultural identity, governance must be conducted in its own languages. The Department of Official Language was founded with this noble goal, and today, on completing 50 years, it stands at a critical juncture where we must commit ourselves to continuing this journey with renewed resolve. He added that this journey has been made possible through the collective struggle, dedication, and determination of many.
This marks the 12th commemorative coin release for the year 2025, minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
