Shri Rao Inderjit Singh to Unveil ₹75 Coin on National Sample Survey
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will commemorate the 19th Statistics Day on June 29, 2025, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. As part of the celebration, a ₹75 commemorative coin and a Customized My Stamp will be released to mark 75 years of National Sample Survey.
The event will be inaugurated by Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Ministry of Planning, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, who will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural session will feature addresses by Prof. Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, Chairman of the National Statistical Commission, and Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI.
Statistics Day is observed annually to honour the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a visionary in the field of statistics and economic planning. The day highlights the significance of statistics in shaping socio-economic policies and aims to inspire greater awareness, particularly among the youth, about its vital role in national development.
Since its inception in 2007, Statistics Day has been observed each year with a theme of national importance. The theme for 2025 is “75 Years of National Sample Survey,” commemorating the pivotal role played by the National Sample Survey in delivering reliable, timely, and comprehensive statistical data to support evidence-based policymaking and governance in India.
It is worth noting that ₹125 and ₹5 commemorative coins were issued in 2018 to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
This will be the 14th commemorative coin of the year 2025, with the Ministry of Finance confirming its issuance through a gazette notification dated June 27, 2025. Additionally, several more commemorative coin releases are expected this year, as outlined in the upcoming and possibility section.
