PM Modi Releases ₹150 Coin Celebrating 150 Years of Vande Mataram

The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a ₹150 commemorative coin and a postal stamp to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram today, on November 7, 2025, at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi.

The celebrations witnessed a mass singing of the full version of “Vande Mataram” across public places, with participation from citizens representing all segments of society, in conjunction with the main programme.

The event was graced by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta; the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena; the Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat; and several other eminent dignitaries, cultural icons, and scholars.

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi remarked that Vande Mataram is not just a song but a mantra of strength, devotion, and resolve — an eternal symbol of unity that connects India’s past, energizes the present, and inspires the future. Describing the mass singing of Vande Mataram as a profoundly moving experience, he said that amidst countless voices emerged one rhythm and one spirit of oneness. He noted that the release of a commemorative coin and postage stamp marked a historic celebration of 150 years of Vande Mataram.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the essence of Vande Mataram lies in the idea of Maa Bharati — a timeless vision of India shaped through centuries of civilization, culture, and moral strength. When expressed in words, he said, this consciousness became a powerful proclamation of freedom during the colonial era. Vande Mataram was not merely a cry for independence, but a vision of a self-reliant and prosperous nation — a Sujalam Sufalam Bharat.

He recalled that from the partition of Bengal to every chapter of the freedom struggle, the chant of Vande Mataram echoed as the heartbeat of India’s unity. From Rabindranath Tagore’s rendition to Sri Aurobindo’s description of it as a mantra, from revolutionaries greeting each other to martyrs at the gallows, the song became the soul of India’s awakening.

Shri Modi stated that Vande Mataram envisions the nation as divine motherhood — Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Durga — symbolizing knowledge, prosperity, and strength. He highlighted India’s growing global stature in science, technology, and security as a reflection of this same spirit. He urged citizens, especially the youth, to uphold self-belief and unity, affirming that with 140 crore children of Maa Bharati, no goal is beyond reach.

Concluding, the Prime Minister said the mantra of Vande Mataram will continue to inspire the nation through the Amrit Kaal toward the dream of a fully developed India by 2047.

This release marks the 30th commemorative coin of the year 2025, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The ₹150 coin, issued on such a momentous occasion, is undoubtedly a prestigious addition to any collection—particularly for numismatists who cherish themes of national pride, heritage, and patriotism. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
