New Commemorative Coin: Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma
The Government of India will be issuing a ₹100 commemorative coin and postal stamp to mark the Birth Centenary of Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma.
Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma, affectionately known as Vandaniya Mataji, was a spiritual guide and social reformer who played a significant role in the development of the All World Gayatri Pariwar. She dedicated her life to spirituality, selfless service, women’s empowerment and social transformation. Alongside Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya, she contributed to spreading the ideals of Gayatri, Yagya and righteous living. She was particularly instrumental in encouraging women to participate actively in spiritual and social activities through the Mahila Jagran Abhiyan. Her life was marked by simplicity, compassion, sacrifice and devotion, leaving a lasting influence on the Gayatri Pariwar and its followers.
The year 2026 also marks the centenary of the Akhand Deep and the spiritual austerities of Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya. These milestones provide an opportunity to revisit the ideals and values associated with the Gayatri movement and its guiding figures.
Speaking about the celebrations, Dr. Chinmay Pandya, Pro Vice Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, said that three pledges—character building, family building and nation building—were taken at the beginning of the year. A historic gathering is being organised at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi to review the progress made towards fulfilling these commitments.
According to Dr. Pandya, 24,000 selected individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields have been invited. The commemorative coin and postage stamp will be unveiled at the beginning of the programme. The event is expected to bring together the President of India, the Union Home Minister, Defence Minister, Union Health Minister, the Lok Sabha Speaker, more than 30 Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors and spiritual leaders. Heads of government from three countries are also expected to participate, underlining the scale of the gathering.
The three-day programme will be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from October 31 to November 2, 2026. Beyond commemorating Mataji’s life, the gathering seeks to carry forward her ideals of character building, family values, social responsibility, women’s empowerment and nation building.
Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma’s legacy is rooted in the belief that meaningful social transformation begins with the transformation of individuals and families. Her emphasis on service, discipline, compassion and the active participation of women continues to inspire generations.
The official gazette notification from the Ministry of Finance is expected to be issued in the coming days, after which the complete specifications and details of the coin will be updated and shared on this blog. The possibility and upcoming coins page have been updated for your reference.
