New Commemorative Coin: Centenary Celebration of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad
The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Centenary Celebration of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on March 13, 2026, confirming this coin.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is a premier technical institution in India, originally established in 1926 as the Indian School of Mines to cater to the country’s mining and geological needs. Upgraded to an Indian Institute of Technology in 2016, it has since grown into a multidisciplinary institute offering programs in engineering, sciences, management and emerging technologies. Known for its strong foundation in mining and earth sciences, it also excels in fields like computer science, electrical engineering and data analytics. With state-of-the-art research facilities and strong industry connections, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad continues to play a key role in advancing technological and scientific development in India.
The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.
Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the image of the building of Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad at the centre of the coin. The year “1926-2026” in international numerals shall be inscribed below the image. On the upper periphery of the coin, the inscription “भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान (भारतीय खनि विद्यापीठ) धनबाद” and “शताब्दी समारोह” shall be written in Devanagari script. On the lower periphery of the coin, the inscription “Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad” and “Centenary Celebration” shall be inscribed in English.
