Mumbai Mint Starts Bookings for Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Coin Sets

The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened the bookings for the ₹100 commemorative coin issued to mark the Centenary Celebration of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. The bookings are open from September 7, 2026, and it is subject to limited availability.

Earlier, on September 6, 2026, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs, Smt. Purnima Chakraborty, unveiled the ₹100 coin at Shishir Mancha, Kolkata. The ceremony was attended by prominent personalities from the Bengali film industry and cultural sphere, including Smt. Rupa Ganguly, Shri Biswajit Chattopadhyay, Shri Prosenjit Chattopadhyay, Padma Shri Saroj Mandal and others.

The ₹100 commemorative coin is currently available in a Proof Set in Booklet packaging, priced at ₹15,743.

It is to be noted that the above pricing is the initial issue price and is subject to revision. However, owing to significant fluctuations in silver prices, the India Government Mint, Mumbai, may revise the prices at a later stage.

It would also have been preferable if the commemorative theme honouring Mahanayak Uttam Kumar had been issued in Nickel Silver rather than Pure Silver. Given his immense popularity and outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, a Nickel Silver coin would have been more affordable and accessible to the many collectors and admirers who wish to own a lasting numismatic tribute to the legendary actor.

These coin sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint, with updates available in the current and upcoming bookings section.
