New Commemorative Coin: Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain
The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Centenary of Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on October 9, 2026, confirming this coin.
Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain (1925–1997), popularly honoured as Sangeet Samrat and Sur Samrat, was a distinguished musician, composer, philanthropist and cultural personality. Born in Multan, he made significant contributions to devotional music, theatre and the Indian film industry. His compositions reflected devotion, patriotism and Indian cultural values, while his philanthropic activities supported education, religion and social welfare. He also encouraged young talent through musical and cultural initiatives. His life remains an example of how music, spirituality, enterprise and service can come together in the preservation and promotion of India's cultural heritage.
The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.
Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the image of Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain at the centre of the coin. The inscription “श्री घनश्याम दास जैन की जन्म शताब्दी” in Devanagari script shall be inscribed on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “Birth Centenary of Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain” in English shall be inscribed on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “2026” in international numerals shall be inscribed on the right side of the image.
This commemorative coin honours Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain’s significant contribution to Indian music, culture and social service.
