2023 - National Technology Day | Commemorative Coin

The seventh commemorative coin for the year 2023 was released to mark the National Technology Day - 25th Anniversary of Operation Shakti.

National Technology Day is observed in India on May 11 every year to commemorate the successful test firing of the Shakti-I nuclear missile at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan on May 11, 1998. The operation was codenamed "Operation Shakti" and involved a series of underground nuclear tests conducted by the Indian Army's Corps of Engineers. The tests were conducted over a period of two days, with the first test being conducted on May 11, 1998.

The successful test firing of the Shakti-I missile was a major milestone in India's nuclear program and demonstrated the country's technological capabilities in the field of nuclear technology. The event is celebrated as National Technology Day in India to promote scientific and technological advancements in the country.

It was on 11th May 1998, that India had a prideful accomplishment of successfully conducting Nuclear Missile Test at Indian Army’s Pokhran range. On this day first indigenous aircraft Hansa-3 was test flown at Bangalore and India also conducted successful test firing of the Trishul missile on the same day. Considering all these achievements 11th, May was chosen to be commemorated as National Technology Day.
