2025 - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel | Commemorative Coin

A commemorative coin of ₹150 is expected to be issued to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The official gazette notification from the Ministry of Finance confirm the issuance of the coin. This will be the second commemorative coin dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the "Iron Man of India," was one of the most influential leaders in India's struggle for independence and post-independence unification. Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Patel played a crucial role in shaping modern India, earning widespread respect for his leadership, determination, and vision.

Patel's early life was marked by a strong will and perseverance. Despite financial hardships, he pursued his education in law and later went to England to further his legal studies. Upon returning to India, he established himself as a successful barrister. However, his life took a significant turn when he joined Mahatma Gandhi's movement against British rule. Inspired by Gandhi’s principles of non-violence and civil disobedience, Patel actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement, gaining prominence as a staunch nationalist.

One of Patel's greatest contributions came after India gained independence in 1947. As the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India, he took on the monumental task of integrating over 560 princely states into the newly formed nation. Through a combination of diplomacy, strategic negotiations, and, when necessary, decisive action, Patel ensured that India remained united. His firm stance and relentless efforts in this regard earned him the title "Iron Man of India."

Apart from political unification, Patel also played a crucial role in setting up India's administrative framework. He worked towards strengthening the civil services and establishing policies that would ensure long-term stability. As a tribute to his contributions, the Indian government inaugurated the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, in Gujarat on October 31, 2018. Standing at 182 meters, this statue is a symbol of Patel’s unwavering commitment to the nation.

Patel passed away on December 15, 1950, but his ideals and vision remain an integral part of India’s foundation.
