2024 - Shri Jawaharlal Darda | Commemorative Coin

The 11th commemorative coin for the year 2024 was issued on the occasion of 101st Birth Anniversary of Shri Jawaharlal Darda.

Shri Jawaharlal Darda was born in Babhulgon on 2 July 1923, Jawaharlal Darda started his journey as a social worker and then, inspired by father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, plunged into the freedom struggle. He plunged into the freedom struggle and participated in the Satyagraha agitation in 1942 and joined ‘Quit India Movement, He was sentenced to jail for one year and 9 months. In Jabalpur Jail, he organized Youth Conference on 10-08-1942. In 1944 he created Azad Hindu Sena at Yavatmal. 

Jawaharlal Darda joined the country's freedom movement and became an active Congress leader and also founded the Lokmat group of newspapers in Maharashtra in 1971. In 1973, he represented the Government of India at Copenhagen (Denmark) at an International Conference on Housing.

On 12 September 2013, Jawaharlal Darda was posthumally conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award at UK's House of Commons.
