Bank of Latvia launches Innovative "Honey coins".

The Bank of Latvia will release an innovative collector coin "Medus coin" on Tuesday, May 22nd, the LETA told the Bank of Latvia. 



The shape of the coin is a hexagon with wavy edges and loose peaks. The obverse of the coin depicts the bee cells, with a different intensity of maturity highlighting the contours of Latvia and the Gulf of Riga, the inscription "Latvia" and the year 2018 on the lower left side, while the back of the coin (the reverse) is the representation of the bee cell with matte, but from the center To the left is a little down, there is a number 5, below it - the inscription "euro". 

"The shape of the coin is unique, and when they coincide with the coins, they form a single set, just like the bees' honey's loaves of honey," added the Bank of Latvia. "Honey coin" is made of silver and gilded.

The Bank of Latvia pointed out that the collection "Honey coin" coin passed on to the first place winner Arturas Analtas in the coin design collection of the innovative collection.

"Medum has a special role in Latvia. About it and chakla honey collectors - bees - speak our folk songs, this is an important product of food, folk medicine and cosmetics. Its citizens are filled with a bee hive everyday as citizens of their country. Therefore, the "Honey coin" is a symbol of chuckle and labor. In addition, bees play an important role in maintaining biodiversity, and their presence is a natural health indicator, "noted the Bank of Latvia.

The coin was made in the Lithuanian mint "Lietuvos monetų kalykla". "Honey coins" have a maximum circulation of 3000 copies, but its price in the Bank of Latvia is 53 euros.

The new coin will be available from the Bank of Latvia's cash departments in Riga and Liepaja from May 22, as well as at the purchase of the collection of coins and other numismatic products by the Bank of Latvia at e-monetas.lv.
