New Commemorative Coin: Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji

The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Centenary of H.H. Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on September 25, 2026, confirming this coin.

Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji was the twentieth Mathadhipati of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan and a highly respected spiritual leader of the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin community. Born on March 31, 1926, at Ernakulam, he was initiated into Sanyasa in 1944 by his Guru, Shrimath Sukrathindra Theertha Swamiji. He became the Mathadhipati in 1949 and guided the Math for nearly seven decades, dedicating his life to spirituality, education, social welfare and the preservation of cultural traditions. He attained Mahasamadhi at Haridwar on January 17, 2016.

The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of the coin shall bear the image of H H Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji at the centre of the coin. The inscription “परम पूज्य श्रीमद सुधीन्द्र तीर्थ स्वामी जी की जन्म शताब्दी” in Devanagari script shall be inscribed on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “Birth Centenary of H H Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji” in English shall be inscribed on the lower periphery of the coin The inscription “श्री काशी मठ संस्थान वाराणसी” in Devanagari script and “Shri Kashi Math Samsthan Varanasi” in English shall be inscribed above the image. The year “2026” in international numerals shall be inscribed below the image.

This commemorative coin honours Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji, the twentieth Mathadhipati of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan, for his contributions to spirituality, education, social welfare and cultural preservation.
