PM Modi Releases ₹350 Coin on Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji
The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released a ₹350 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the national capital today, on January 13, 2019.
Addressing a distinguished gathering at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, following the release of the coin, the Prime Minister paid heartfelt tribute to the lofty ideals and timeless values of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He spoke of the Guru’s life of selfless service, unwavering devotion, heroic spirit, and supreme sacrifice, urging people across the nation to draw inspiration from his path.
Shri Modi described Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a visionary leader and a towering personality—an extraordinary warrior, philosopher, poet, and spiritual guide. He highlighted the Guru’s resolute stand against tyranny and injustice and noted that his teachings were centered on breaking down societal barriers of caste, creed, and religion. The Prime Minister emphasized that Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s message of unity, compassion, peace, and courage continues to hold profound relevance in today’s world.
Expressing deep admiration, the Prime Minister remarked that the Guru’s principles and teachings would remain an enduring source of inspiration for humanity. He said the commemorative coin serves as a humble yet meaningful tribute to the revered Guru, symbolizing the nation’s respect and gratitude. Shri Modi also encouraged people to take a pledge to follow the guiding 11-point principles laid down by Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj.
The ceremony was graced by several prominent Sikh dignitaries, including former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, SGPC President S. Gobind Singh Longowal, Union Minister of State Hardeep Singh Puri, and Akali parliamentarians Prem Singh Chandumajra and Balwinder Singh Bhoondarh, among others.
This commemorative coin marks the first official release of the year 2019, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
