MoF issues Gazette Notification for Srila Prabhupada Coin

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of ₹125 to mark the '125th Birth Anniversary of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.' The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on July 19, 2021, confirming the coin.

Srila Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami, also known as Srila Prabhupada, born Abhay Charan De, was an influential Indian spiritual teacher and the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), commonly recognized as the "Hare Krishna Movement."

The metal composition of the ₹125 coin will consist of a Quaternary Alloy, comprising 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Nickel, and 5% Zinc. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

The obverse side of the coin will feature the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center, accompanied by the inscription "सत्यमेव जयते" below. On the left periphery, the word “भारत” in Devanagari script, and on the right periphery, the word “INDIA” in English will be inscribed. Additionally, the Rupee symbol “₹” and the denominational value “125” in international numerals will appear below the Lion Capitol.

On the reverse side of the coin, the central image portrays Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The inscriptions "श्रील ए.सी. भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी प्रभुपाद की 125वीं जयंती” in Hindi and “125th Birth Anniversary of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada” in English adorn the upper and lower periphery of the coin. The years “1896” and “2021” in international numerals are positioned beside the left and right sides of the image of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

The commemorative coin is anticipated to be released on 1st September 2021, aligning with the 125th Birth Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada.
