The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, will be releasing a ₹50 commemorative coin to mark 50 years of Project Tiger, celebrating India’s tiger conservation achievements on April 9, 2023, at Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru.
In the morning, the Prime Minister will visit the Bandipur Tiger Reserve and the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. The official commemoration of 50 years of Project Tiger will follow in Mysuru.
India conducts a National Tiger Estimation every four years, with the last survey completed in 2018. The results, released by Shri Modi on Global Tiger Day, July 29, 2019, indicated a total of 2,967 tigers in the country.
The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on March 23, 2023, officially confirming the coin. Notably, this will be the first commemorative coin in India to feature a tiger, highlighting the country’s conservation success on a global platform.
