PM Narendra Modi to release ₹50 coin on Project Tiger at Mysuru

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will launch a three-day mega event on April 9th 2023 in Mysuru in Karnataka to mark the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger and showcase India's tiger conservation success globally.

The Prime Minister will release the ₹50 commemorative coin along with the latest tiger census data, the government's vision for tiger conservation during 'Amrit Kaal' said S P Yadav, Member Secretary, National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

The National Tiger estimation is conducted every four years. The last estimation was done in 2018 and figures were released by Shri Narendra Modi on Global Tiger Day on July 29, 2019 in Delhi. There are 2,967 tigers in the country as per the 2018 estimation.

The Ministry of Finance issued the gazette notification on March 23rd 2023 confirming the commemorative coin. This will the first commemorative coin featuring 'Tiger' in the history of Republic India.

Update:

On 9th April, 2023, at around 7:15 AM, Prime Minister will visit Bandipur Tiger Reserve. He will also visit the Theppakadu Elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. At around 11 AM, Prime Minister will inaugurate the programme ‘Commemoration of 50 years of Project Tiger’ organised at Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru.
