New Possible Commemorative Coin: Cricket World Cup 2023

The Government of India may issue a commemorative coin to mark the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the 13th edition of the tournament, scheduled from October 5 to November 19, 2023. A commemorative coin is likely, as this will be the first ICC World Cup fully hosted by India.

The Cricket World Cup, officially known as ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, is the international championship of One Day International (ODI) cricket. The event is organised by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), every four years, with preliminary qualification rounds leading up to a finals tournament. The tournament is one of the world's most viewed sporting events and is considered the "flagship event of the international cricket calendar" by the ICC. India has won the champions trophy twice in 1983 and 2011 World Cups.

Earlier, the India Government Mint had plans to release a gold and silver coin to commemorate the Cricket World Cup 2019, However the Government of India dropped the plans and the commemorative coins went unreleased.

A gazette notification will confirm the issue of commemorative coin. The Government of India has only issued commemorative coins on IX Asian Games Delhi 1982 and XIX Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 with a sports theme till date.
