The Hon’ble Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, released the ₹250 commemorative coin and a special postal stamp to mark the 251st Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy on May 22, 2023.

The event was attended by Shri Rajat Paul, Chief General Manager, India Government Mint, Kolkata, Ms. Priyanka Chandra, Director, Ministry of Culture, Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and State President, BJP West Bengal, along with other distinguished guests.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy, often regarded as the Father of the Indian Renaissance, was a visionary reformer who championed women’s rights, education, social equality, and rational thought. His resolute efforts led to the abolition of Sati and significant reforms in Indian society. The 251st Birth Anniversary is a moment of reflection on his enduring legacy and his monumental contributions that continue to shape modern India.

The ₹250 commemorative coin is not only a tribute to Raja Ram Mohan Roy but also a rare and prestigious addition for collectors. Coins of this denomination are limited in issue and often mark historically important occasions, making them highly sought after in numismatic circles. Collecting this coin preserves a tangible piece of India’s socio-cultural heritage.

The long-awaited commemorative coin, honouring the legendary social reformer and pioneer of the Indian Renaissance, has been minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata. To mark the release, the mint arranged a special counter sale at the venue, offering collectors a rare opportunity to purchase the coin on the day of its issue.
