New Commemorative Coin: Rani Durgavati

A commemorative coin of ₹500 will be issued to celebrate of 500th Birth Anniversary of Rani Durgavati. The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that the 500th birth anniversary of Rani Durgavati will be celebrated by the Government of India at national level on 5th October 2023.

Apart from the commemorative coin, a film will be made on her life and a postal stamp will be issued.

Rani Durgavati (5 October 1524 – 24 June 1564) was the ruling Queen of Gondwana from 1550 until 1564. She was married to Dalpat Shah, the son of king Sangram Shah of the Garha Kingdom. She is chiefly remembered for defending her kingdom against the Mughal Empire.

Concluding the address, the Prime Minister asked for the cooperation and blessings of the people to continue these efforts even further. He expressed confidence that the blessings and inspiration of Rani Durgavati will enable Madhya Pradesh to soar to new heights of development and together realize the dream of a developed India.

The gazette notification is awaited from the Ministry of Finance to know more details of the commemorative coin.
