New Commemorative Coin: Platinum Jubilee of Armed Forces Medical College

The Government of India will issue a commemorative coin of ₹75 to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on November 29, 2023, confirming this event.

The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) stands as a premier medical institute in India, celebrated for its commitment to excellence in education and research. It provides comprehensive training for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing students, assuring promising career paths in the defense services. Established on May 1, 1948, in accordance with the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee, the institute emerged from the amalgamation of various defense medical organizations. The inception of the "Graduate Wing" on August 4, 1962, aimed to ensure a steady supply of medical officers for the Indian Armed Forces.

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will confer the President's Colour upon the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in a ceremony on December 1, 2023, marking its platinum jubilee year.

The metal composition of the ₹75 coin will consist of a 80% Silver and 20% Copper. The coin will weigh 35 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “75” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of coin shall bear the image of the logo of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in the center of the coin encircled with the international numeral “75”. The inscription “सशस्त्र सेना चिकित्सा महाविद्यालय, पुणे” in Devanagari script shall be written on the upper periphery. The inscription “Armed Forces Medical College, Pune” in English shall be written on the lower periphery. “सा विद्या या विमुक्तये” in Devanagari script and “In Pursuit of Excellence” in English shall be written below the logo. The year “1948” and “2023” in international numerals shall be flanked on left and right side of the international numeral “75” respectively.
