FM Unveils ₹100 Coin on SBI Mumbai Branch Centenary

The Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, released a ₹100 commemorative coin today, November 18, 2024, to mark the Centenary Year of the State Bank of India’s Mumbai Main BranchThe event took place at the Tata Theatre, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

The event was graced by the presence of Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Shri C.S. Setty, Chairman of the State Bank of India, along with other dignitaries.

On this occasion, the Hon'ble Finance Minister also unveiled a book titled The Evolution of State Bank of India: Volume 5 and an audiobook covering 'The Evolution of State Bank of India: Volumes I, II, III, IV, and V'.

In her address, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the historical significance of the SBI Mumbai Main Branch building, which is celebrating its centenary. She noted that the building, designed in the Indo-Gothic architectural style, is classified as a Grade II-A heritage structure. She remarked, “The building stands solid, symbolizing the bank's resilience and growth—from having 250 branches to now an impressive 22,500 branches.”

She further praised SBI’s pivotal role in expanding banking services, especially between 2014 and today, through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), digital banking services, and various government schemes aimed at empowering the common man. She emphasized that SBI has achieved remarkable growth, extending its reach to citizens in the most remote areas of the country.

This release marked the 19th commemorative coin for the year 2024, minted by the India Government Mint, Mumbai. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint's website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
