New Commemorative Coin: 50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim

The Government of India will issue a ₹50 commemorative coin on occasion of 50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 13, 2025, confirming this coin.

Sikkim, a picturesque Himalayan state, will celebrate 50 years of its merger with the Indian Union, which took place on May 16, 1975. To mark this historic milestone, the state will host the Golden Jubilee Conclave in 2025. The event will honor Sikkim’s remarkable journey as a progressive, eco-friendly, and culturally rich region. With vibrant cultural displays and meaningful discussions, the conclave will reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and envision a sustainable future.

The metal composition of the ₹50 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.

Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “50” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse: This face of coin shall bear logo of 50 Years celebration of Sikkim State in the center of the coin. The inscription “राज्यत्व के 50 गौरवशाली वर्ष - सिक्किम” shall be written in Devnagari script on the upper periphery and the inscription “50 Glorious Years of Statehood–Sikkim” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “1975 -2025” in international numeral shall be written below the logo.
