New Commemorative Coin: Panth Rattan Gurcharan Singh Tohra
The Government of India will issue a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the Birth Centenary of Panth Rattan Shri Gurcharan Singh Tohra. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on May 15, 2025, confirming this coin.
Panth Rattan Shri Gurcharan Singh Tohra was a revered Sikh leader and statesman known for his lifelong dedication to Sikh principles and institutions. As the longest-serving President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), he played a pivotal role in shaping and preserving the religious and cultural identity of the Sikh community. Tohra's unwavering commitment to Panthic values, democratic ideals, and the autonomy of Sikh institutions earned him immense respect across Punjab and beyond. His legacy as a principled, fearless, and visionary leader continues to inspire generations.
The metal composition of the ₹100 coin will consist of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin will weigh 40 grams and have a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge. The coin's description is as follows.
Obverse: The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत” in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “100” in the international numerals below the Lion Capitol.
Reverse: This face of coin shall bear the image of Panth Rattan Late Shri Gurcharan Singh Tohra in the centre of the coin. The inscription “पंथ रतन स्वर्गीय श्री गुरचरण सिंह टोहड़ा की जन्म शताब्दी” shall be written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery and the inscription “Birth Centenary of Panth Rattan Late Shri Gurcharan Singh Tohra” in English shall be depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “1924” on left side of the image and the year “2024” on right side of the image shall be written in international numeral.
