PM Modi to Unveil ₹100 Coin Featuring Chenab Bridge

The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is schedule to unveil a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the commissioning of the Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line, featuring the iconic Chenab Bridge during the flagging off of the first train between Katra in Jammu and Srinagar on June 6, 2025.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Project (USBRL) on April 19, 2025, which includes the world’s tallest Chenab Rail Bridge and the Anji Khad Bridge. He was also set to flag off a special Kashmir edition of the Vande Bharat Express from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station to Srinagar. However, the event was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

This will mark Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after 'Operation Sindoor'—India’s precision airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan conducted on May 7, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.

The Chenab Bridge stands at 467 metres, making it 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Designed to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 8, it posed significant engineering challenges due to its location in a high-seismic zone.

This commemorative coin featuring the Chenab Bridge would mark a significant milestone in India’s engineering excellence and infrastructure development. The Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification on February 6, 2025, officially confirming the issuance of this coin. This commemorative coin is reportedly minted by the India Government Mint, Kolkata.

Additionally, several more commemorative coin releases are expected this year, as outlined in the upcoming and possibility section.
