The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, unveiled a ₹100 commemorative coin and a postal stamp to mark the commissioning of the Jammu–Srinagar Railway Line, featuring the iconic Chenab Bridge, underscoring his commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure and connectivity in the region, on June 6, 2025.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways; Shri Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office; Shri Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir; and Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah, along with several other distinguished guests.
Shri Narendra Modi remarked that the day’s event marked a grand celebration of India’s unity and determination. With the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi, he noted, the Kashmir Valley is now firmly integrated into India’s vast railway network. “We have always invoked Maa Bharati with deep reverence, saying ‘from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.’ Today, this vision has become a reality even in our railway network,” the Prime Minister declared. He emphasized that the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Line Project is not merely a name but a symbol of Jammu and Kashmir’s renewed strength and a testament to India’s growing capabilities.
In line with the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and regional connectivity, the Prime Minister inaugurated the iconic Chenab and Anji rail bridges and flagged off Vande Bharat trains to improve rail access across Jammu and Kashmir. He also laid the foundation stone for a new medical college in Jammu, reaffirming the government's resolve to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region. Shri Modi announced that projects worth ₹46,000 crore are set to fast-track development, driving progress and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the transformative potential of the Chenab and Anji Bridges, Shri Modi stated that these engineering marvels will act as catalysts for growth, boosting tourism and positively impacting various sectors of the economy. Enhanced rail connectivity, he said, will unlock new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and industries, accelerating economic development. He further pointed out that with improved logistics, Kashmiri apples can now reach major Indian markets at lower costs, making trade more efficient. Additionally, dry fruits, Pashmina shawls, and other traditional handicrafts will be transported more easily across the country, providing a boost to the region’s artisanal and cultural industries.
The Prime Minister concluded by noting that this improved infrastructure will also make travel more accessible and convenient for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, facilitating seamless mobility across the country and ushering in a new era of inclusive growth and connectivity.
